Remove your hotel emissions today. Add one 20 kg unit for every night you stay in a hotel room, and multiply based on the country below.

The CO₂ is physically removed from the atmosphere and durably stored for centuries, certified by Puro.earth. You receive public registry proof within one month of purchase.

20 kg of CO₂ removal equals the energy an average hotel in most of Europe and the Americas uses per room per night: electricity, heating and cooling. Count rooms, not guests. Two people sharing a room need one unit per night.

Choose the amount based on the country of your hotel:

  • 1 unit (20 kg): Western and Northern Europe, the United States, Canada, Mexico and Latin America, except Chile.
  • 2 units (40 kg): Greece, Poland, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Russia, Chile, Japan, Australia, Singapore and Vietnam.
  • 3 units (60 kg): China, Hong Kong, India, South Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Egypt and South Africa.
  • 4 units (80 kg): Indonesia, Malaysia, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
  • 5 units or more: Qatar and Oman 5 units (100 kg), Saudi Arabia 6 units (120 kg), the Maldives 8 units (160 kg).

If your country is not listed, use 2 units in Europe and the Americas and 3 units elsewhere. For a luxury hotel or resort, choose the next tier up. For nights on board a ship, use Cruise Carbon Removal.

Examples:

  • Weekend city break in Europe, 2 nights: 2 units, 40 kg of CO₂, €7.90
  • A week in Thailand, 7 nights: 21 units, 420 kg of CO₂, €82.95
  • 4 nights in Dubai: 16 units, 320 kg of CO₂, €63.20

The 20 kg of CO₂ per room per night is a rounded figure above the average hotel night in every first-tier country, based on the UK Government's hotel emission factors and international hotel benchmarking data. See detailed calculations below.

The price reflects what durable carbon removal costs: the amount of CO₂ you purchase has already been locked away from the atmosphere for centuries, which costs more than funding projects that aim to reduce future emissions. See what the price is based on →

Calculation data and methods:

  1. Europe: 6.6 to 19 kg CO₂e per room per night in most countries
Switzerland 6.6 kg, France 6.7, Spain 7.0, UK 10.4, Belgium 12.2, Germany 13.2, Italy 14.3, the Netherlands 14.8 and Portugal 19.0. Russia is higher at 24.2 kg and Turkey at 32.1 kg. The factors apply per occupied room per night, whatever the number of guests, and cover the hotel's energy use. They come from the Hotel Footprinting Tool by the International Tourism Partnership and Greenview, based on the Cornell Hotel Sustainability Benchmarking Index.

  2. Hotel class and power grid: Finland 2-star 5.4 kg, Greece 4-star 30.1 kg
The same benchmark data, split by star rating, shows how much the power grid and the hotel class change the figure.

  3. The Americas: 4.7 to 19.3 kg, Chile 27.6 kg
Costa Rica 4.7 kg, Canada 7.4, Brazil 8.7, Colombia 14.7, United States 16.1, Mexico 19.3 and Chile 27.6.

  4. Asia-Pacific: 24.5 to 62.7 kg
    Singapore 24.5 kg, Australia 35.0, Vietnam 38.5, Japan 39.0, Thailand 43.4, Hong Kong 51.5, China 53.5, the Philippines 54.3, South Korea 55.8, India 58.9, Malaysia 61.5 and Indonesia 62.7.

  5. Middle East, Africa and the Maldives: 44.2 to 152.2 kg
Egypt 44.2 kg, South Africa 51.4, United Arab Emirates 63.8, Jordan 68.9, Qatar 86.2, Oman 90.3, Saudi Arabia 106.4 and the Maldives 152.2.

  6. Calculation:
    1. 1 unit, 20 kg: covers every first-tier country. The highest is Mexico at 19.3 kg.
    2. 2 units, 40 kg: the highest is Japan at 39.0 kg. Greece, Poland and the Czech Republic are placed here based on Greece's 4-star figure and their fossil-heavy power (our estimate).
    3. 3 units, 60 kg: the highest is India at 58.9 kg.
    4. 4 units, 80 kg: the highest is Jordan at 68.9 kg.
    5. Qatar 86.2 kg and Oman 90.3 kg: 5 units, 100 kg. Saudi Arabia 106.4 kg: 6 units, 120 kg. The Maldives 152.2 kg: 8 units, 160 kg.

--> A rounded figure of 20 kg per room per night is used here, above the average hotel night in every first-tier country, with multiples for other regions. The factors cover the hotel's energy use; producing the fuels and building the hotel are not included. At €0.198 per kg, 20 kg comes to €3.96, priced at €3.95.

Every carbon removal we sell is certified by Puro.earth, independently verified, and already occurred (ex-post).

The CO₂ you purchase has been physically removed from the atmosphere and durably stored for centuries by our certified carbon removal partners, such as the biochar projects by Truecoco in Ghana and Joanna in the US.

Your purchased amount of CO₂ removal will be retired on your behalf within one month of purchase, and you will get a confirmation email with a link to the retirement record at Puro.earth public registry to show your removal order has been finalised and only counted once.

Why Durable Carbon Removal is Essential
Global temperatures are record high, causing weather extremes and climate instability. This is due to excess atmospheric CO₂ levels that continue to rise. Reducing future emissions cannot solve this alone anymore, so durable carbon removal is required.
