Walk-On Ferry Carbon Removal

This product removes the total global warming impact of one passenger travelling on a foot passenger ferry for one hour.

5 kg of CO₂ is physically removed from the atmosphere and durably stored for 100+ years, with proof provided within one month of purchase.

The 5 kg value is a comprehensive, conservative global average of the total life-cycle and climate impact that ensures full coverage on high-speed or low-occupancy routes and is based on calculations below. 

Calculation data and methods:

1. Direct CO₂ Emissions: 112 g/pkm (TTW)
   This "Tank-to-Wake" (TTW) number means the direct CO₂ emissions from the fuel burned during the crossing. The 112 g per passenger kilometer (pkm) represents a global average for a "Large Ro-Pax" (Roll-on/Passenger) vessel, ensuring that your removal covers the shared overhead of the ship’s engines regardless of the specific vessel type.

2. Upstream CO₂ Emissions: 20% (WTT)
   The "Well-to-Tank" (WTT) ratio accounts for the carbon footprint of the marine fuel before it reaches the ship, including extraction, refining, and global transport. The 20% uplift accounts for the full life-cycle of the fuel, aligned with the latest IMO lifecycle guidelines.

3. Operational & Port Buffer: 15%
   Ferries spend significant time maneuvering in ports and idling at the dock while maintaining power for onboard systems (lights, cafeterias, safety). The 15% buffer accounts for these "at-berth" emissions and non-CO₂ greenhouse gases like Methane and Nitrous Oxide, which became mandatory in maritime reporting in 2026.

4. Average Ferry Speed: 30 km/h
   The average distance a regional ferry covers in one hour. The global average transit speed of approximately 16 knots (30 km/h) allows us to calculate a standardized '1 Hour' unit that is an accurate representation for the vast majority of international ferry routes.
