Planboo video summary of 2024 (0:36)

About the carbon removal project

In nothern Namibia, encroaching bush has spread across millions of hectares, reducing biodiversity, straining groundwater reserves, and lowering agricultural yields.

Planboo partners with landowners to restore the degraded savanna landscapes by harvesting this excess biomass and turning it into biochar that stores carbon for over 100 years.

When put back to soil, biochar improves soil health and water retention. This supports local agriculture and enables local employment and new income streams in rural communities. And it also strengthens climate resilience in drought-affected regions.

By 2030, the project aims for 329,000 tonnes of CO₂ removed, 40,000 hectares of savanna restored and 1,590 new jobs created.
