Certified by Puro.earth
Puro.earth is a leading crediting platform for engineered carbon removal. They certiy most of the issued and retired CO2 removal credits globally.
Puro.earth defines robust, science-based methodologies for carbon removal, such as biochar, and requires independent third-party verification before any carbon removal is certified.
Only carbon dioxide that has been physically removed from the atmosphere and durably stored for at least 100 years is eligible for certification.
What a CO₂ Removal Certificate (CORC) represents
For every metric ton of CO₂ that is physically removed from the atmosphere and durably stored, Puro.earth issues one CO₂ Removal Certificate (CORC).
Each CORC confirms that the carbon removal is:
- Ex-post - the removal has already taken place
- Measured and verified - audited under science-based standards
- Durable - stored for at least 100 years
- Unique - tied to a single, completed removal
A CORC represents one metric ton of CO₂ physically removed and durably stored.
Public registry and retirement
Puro.earth operates a public registry where all CO₂ Removal Certificates are:
- issued
- tracked
- and retired
Retirement means the certificate has been permanently closed in the public registry, so the same carbon removal cannot be sold, transferred, or counted twice.
Anyone can view retired certificates in the Puro.earth public registry.
This registry is the core mechanism that makes carbon removal transparent, traceable, and verifiable.
What this means for individuals
Remove Carbon Today exists to make certified carbon removal accessible to individuals.
We purchase CO₂ Removal Certificates from certified carbon removal suppliers and retire them on behalf of individual customers.
Every time purchases through our store add up to one full metric ton of CO₂ removed, one CORC is retired in the public registry.
When your purchase contributes to that retired ton, you receive an email confirmation, with a link to Puro.earth public registry retirement statement confirming the CORC is retired and closed on your behalf.
This retirement and confirmation is done within one month of purchase.
You do not need to rely on claims - you can independently verify the record yourself at Puro.earth registry.
What your proof looks like
-
Each retirement registry record shows:
- the amount of retired CORCs
- the carbon removal method and project
- the beneficiary and purpose of removal
- the Remove Carbon Today batch ID
- the retirement status and date
This confirms that the CO₂ has been removed from the atmosphere and claimed only once.

Why this level of proof matters
Atmospheric CO₂ concentrations are at their highest levels in human history and are the primary driver of global warming.
Reducing future emissions is essential, but it does not remove the excess CO₂ already in the atmosphere.
Durable carbon removal addresses this need by physically removing CO₂ and storing it for the long term, supporting efforts to limit warming and reduce cumulative climate risk.
In short
Individuals using Remove Carbon Today can independently verify that their purchased carbon removal has been completed as certified, ex-post carbon removal and retired in a public registry.
