Freres: 100 Years of Innovation, incl. biochar (6:28)

About the carbon removal project

Freres Engineered Wood is a family-owned forestry and wood engineering company and produces finished plywood products, lumber, veneers, structural composite lumber, and mass ply panels in Lyons, Oregon, USA.

Their quest to minimizing their environmental impact and making sure nothing is wasted has led them to develop a wide-range of products, including high-quality biochar from their own biomass power production.

Freres burns residual wood from their manufacturing operations to produce renewable energy that is used as heat and to generate electricity. This energy production creates biochar as a byproduct, which both enhances soil and retains carbon for centuries, and helps climate-conscious companies and individuals decrease their carbon footprint.

Freres is certified as a carbon removal supplier through the Puro.earth.
