Exomad started as a wood company crafting classical instruments, guitars, furniture and more. During this time, they witnessed sustainable wood residues being wasted and incinerated in open pits at sawmills, polluting the air. They began by collecting these residues at no cost from sawmills and transforming them into biochar, which locks CO₂ for centuries.

The produced biochar is donated entirely to indigenous communities and farmers. It enhances nutrient and water retention, making it an excellent soil amendment for promoting plant growth and boosting crop yields. With a slow decomposition rate, it provides long-lasting soil fertility. Also, hardwood biochar improves soil structure and increases water-holding capacity, reducing irrigation needs and fostering more resilient agriculture.

Exomad's mission is to recycle biomass residues into biochar, tackling waste management while enhancing soil fertility, boosting agricultural productivity, and combating climate change through carbon sequestration.

Exomad facilities in Bolivia are rapidly expanding to meet growing demand, with plans to reach 1,000,000 tonnes of CO₂ removed annually by 2027 across five sites. Two facilities are currently operational, and a third one is already under construction.

Exomad is certified as a carbon removal supplier through the Puro.earth, and currently their biochar project is the largest in the world.
